In this page, we will be showing you how to frame a cel setup using the Timeless Archival Anime Cel Framing Kit, with an awesome key master setup
from the classic show Slayers consisting of a whopping 5 layers including the background!
_
1. Open the back cover, and take out the backing, two thin dividers, and two thick dividers, but leave in the suede double matboard.
_
2. Lay the first layer of cel you want to see at the very front of the frame, closest to you. Usually this would be the foreground or cels with only the mouth/eyes. In this case, it will be this foreground layer cel of Gourry.
_
3. Cut out a portion of the divider where the punched hole would be, and for this section we are using a thick one to give a greater sense of distance and depth between Gourry and Lina. The cutout will ventilate the cel to prevent accumulation of harmful fumes, at the same time will be a reference point to align all of the layers later in the process.
_
4. Lay the thick divider on top of the first layer. Note that you can also use a thin divider to adjust the distance between each layer to suit your preference.
_
5. Lay the second cel layer (Lina's mouth) on top and be careful that both layers are properly aligned. If the first layer is completely covered by the image on the second layer, align the punched holes in the cut-out section of the divider. Repeat the process if there are more layers that need to be put in.
_
※We are putting a thin divider between Lina's mouth cel and the main Lina cel because it will still look great, but if you prefer to display the setup without any space between the cel layer with the face and the one with the mouth and/or eyes, you could put both cels back-to-back but with a piece of microchamber paper underneath the paint (for the eyes or mouth) to prevent sticking.
_
6. If all of the cels have been put in, put in the desired number of dividers between the cel and the background that will go in next. For this occasion, we will be putting in the second thick divider to give a greater sense of distance between the background and the characters.
_
7. Lay the background on top of the divider. If the background is cut out to be the same size as the cel, a section might be left uncovered on the sides, but that is completely fine as it increases ventilation and the uncovered edges will not be visible from the outside at this depth. Just make sure at least two opposing sides are held down by the divider.
※For increased safety, we always recommend photocopying the background to acid/lignin free paper and using that instead of the original background, if possible.
_
8. Put the backing on top of the background.
_
9. Put on the backing with the correct orientation, and push in the flex tabs so that the inside contents are secured tightly with no wobble.
_
9. Congratulations, your cel setup is ready to be displayed on the wall and always enjoyed!
